Two persons suspected to be armed robbers, who specialised in snatching motorcycles and Point of Sales Machines, were set ablaze by a mob at Gbaremu bus stop in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday night.
SaharaReporters gathered that the robbers shot an Hausa Okada rider after a lady operating a POS had been robbed.
According to witnesses, it was the gunshots that alerted some residents before they chased the robbers and arrested two among them.
A resident of the area, Abass Isiaka, who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Saturday morning, said the robbers were set ablaze because the attack on innocent residents of the area was becoming unbearable.
“Yes, two of them were set ablaze. They are armed robbers terrorising our community. Starting from Ijokodo, WAEC junction to Apete, the robbers operate even in the afternoon.
"These same criminals are fond of attacking POS operators. I heard they operated in Ologuneru last week where they collected money from a POS operator. Few days later, they came to Gbaremu market and robbed a young man who operated POS business.
"With this, it will serve as deterrent to other members of their gang. We won't hesitate to kill them again. We have had enough of them. Since the government has failed, we won't fail ourselves," he said.
