According to a report by SaharaReporters, the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Friday, heard the murder case of a 7-year-old girl, Demilade Fadare found dead in the house of a neighbour, Mr Olajiga, on Tuesday.

Men of the Ekiti State Police Command charged the principal suspect, Oluwasikemi Olajiga for murder and negligence on Friday.

Other suspects arraigned before the Magistrate Court were her parents, Mr and Mrs Olajiga.

Demilade had been declared missing since Monday, but was found dead on Tuesday in the house of Olagija, said to be a pastor at the Adehun area of Ado-Ekiti.

Sources told journalists that the seven-year-old girl who was sent on an errand by her parent was waylaid and murdered in cold blood by Oluwasikemi, daughter of the pastor who was said to be mentally unstable.

The tragic incident angered youths in the area who burnt Olagija's house and demanded justice.

A source said, "A search party was launched for the girl by her parents and some residents and she was never found before her corpse was found this morning at the residence of a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor in the neighbourhood.

“So, it was later on, we heard the pastor and his wife had gone to the State Police Command to report his mentally deranged daughter’s act.

“I even heard the girl had once macheted her father’s head.”

“The dead body of the girl had been recovered and deposited at the morgue."

However, the prosecuting lawyer filed an ex parte motion demanding the remand of the suspects at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti.

Demilade's uncle, Temitope Fadare, who was interviewed by BBC News Pidgin said the suspect had no mental health issues. He said the only thing the family want is justice for their murdered girl.

"There is nothing we want than justice. Justice, justice and justice. Justice must be served. It was so unfortunate. They were saying the lady that killed her had a mental problem, that was a lie.

"Though I am not living in Ekiti anytime I come around, I do see them. They used to go to their houses. The suspect used to grind pepper for people. If she has a mental illness, would she be doing that?

"I learnt she still ground beans to make Akara (bean cake) for people the day she killed Demilade. It was just a story to cover up," Temitope said.

When the BBC News Pidgin reporters spoke to the defence counsel, Babatunde Oke, he said the suspect was charged for murder and negligence.

"The suspect was charged for murder and negligence. The case has been forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice. So until legal advice is out, the case won't be heard," Oke said.
