Daily Post reports that a heavy storm that accompanied the early rains of the year in Ondo State has wreaked havoc in Irese community, Ifedore Local Government Area of state,
The rainstorm, which occurred on Friday night, destroyed several houses, including the community’s health centre, city hall, and schools, among others, leaving the majority of citizens homeless.
It also wreaked havoc on a church and a poultry farm in the town, causing damage worth millions of naira.
Following the incident, the residents lamented the storm’s devastating impact on them and their livelihood.
Some of the victims said without immediate government help, it will be difficult to get their lives back on track due to the high cost of building materials.
According to some of them, the rainstorm lasted several hours and blew off the rooftops of most of the buildings.
Speaking on the disaster, which also devastated parts of his palace, the Olurese of Irese community, Oba Destiny Saka, said the magnitude of the disaster was beyond the community’s financial capacity.
The monarch remarked, “I urge Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and other representatives of the area to come to the help of the victims, who are primarily pensioners.”
