Goje warned that unresolved issues among members might negatively affect the performance of the party during the forthcoming elections.
The ruling All Progressives Congress is crumbling, Gombe Central Senator and former Gombe State Governor, Senator Danjuma Mohammed Goje has warned.
His warning comes ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
He told the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to resolve all issues and grievances among members if the party wants to remain relevant going into the 2023 general elections.
Goje warned that unresolved issues among members might negatively affect the performance of the party during the forthcoming elections.
Particularly about Gombe State, he pointed out that the recommendations of the reconciliation meeting have not been implemented three months after all stakeholders agreed to it.
The observations were made in a statement signed by Mr. Ahmed Isa of the Media Office of Senator Goje which was made available to newsmen on Monday.
The major bone of contention is a leadership tussle between Senator Goje and the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya.
In the statement, Goje warned that the non-implementation of the recommendations of the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led peace committee portends danger for the APC not only in Gombe State but also nationally as the state chapter of the party may not be able to make the expected contributions in terms of votes to the national cause.
It will be recalled that in January 2022, a stakeholders meeting held at the Abuja home of Senator Abdullahi Adamu at the instance of the chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni hosted Governor Inuwa and Senator Goje on the crisis rocking the APC in Gombe State.
Others present at the meeting were former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Senator Kashim Shettima, former governors, and Senators.
At the meeting, both Inuwa and Goje were convinced to allow peace to reign in the interest of the party.
But Goje in a statement by his media team said the agreements from the meeting have not been implemented.
It, therefore, called on the APC National Leadership to look into the matter and ensure all agreements are respected and implemented.
The statement reads in part; “As loyal and peace-loving party, if this happens, no one should blame our leader and father, Senator Goje, who despite the ill-treatment meted out on him by those he brought to power, embraced the peace moves in line with Islamic Injunctions.
“Let no one be deceived, as it is, our beloved party is in disarray in Gombe State and this must be addressed for us to be able to maintain our leading role in the State. The party is crumbling and this explains the gale of defection and resignation being witnessed daily.”
