The Lagos State Ministry of Education has clarified that it ordered the temporary shutdown of only Chrisland High School, Ikeja, and not other branches of the school operated by the owners.

Recall that the state government had over the weekend issued the order following the controversial death of a pupil of the school, Whitney Adeniran. The 12-year-old died during the school's inter-house sports last Thursday, February 9.

The mother of the deceased says the school authorities claimed she slumped and died. There are speculations that the deceased was electrocuted during the inter-house sports but this has not been confirmed.

In a statement released on Monday, February 13, Ganiu Lawal who is the Assistant Director, Public Affairs of the state's Ministry of Education, says the clarification became necessary to address the anxiety of parents and members of the public on the erroneous claim that the school defied the State Government order on its closure.

''For the avoidance of doubt, only Chrisland High School Ikeja, where Whitney was a student until the unfortunate incident, remains closed as directed and the school authority has complied.  The regrettable death of Whitney, as reported, is undergoing investigation by the police and relevant agencies of the Lagos State Government. The findings of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is completed.

However, Chrisland High School, Ikeja, will remain temporarily closed to students and staff to allow unhindered investigations and afford all stakeholders including parents, students, staff, and friends of the deceased, time to grieve. ''
