Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah says there is no going back to fuel subsidy.
He made the point at a town hall meeting in Enugu on Wednesday that was shared online.
He said bringing back subsidy would be a serious mistake.
The naira would lose value, prices would rise, and poverty would get worse.
He also said even talking about it could scare off investors who are now coming into the sector.
Mbah defended the removal of subsidy.
He said the old system mostly helped rich people.
He pointed to the government's cash transfers and its plan to give seed money to 1,000 people in each ward as ways to help the poor.
He also listed what he says his government has done in Enugu.
These include the Hotel Presidential, the International Conference Centre, Enugu Air, 268 smart green schools, 260 primary health centres and CNG buses.
He promised more in a second term, including 24 hour power and a monorail.
He asked voters to keep him in office so the progress continues.
