Ismila Y. Maihanji, the National Assembly member-elect for the Jalingo-Yorro-Zing federal constituency has been laid to rest in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, on Sunday.
The politician, who died in the early hours of Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, was buried according to Islamic rites.
Sympathisers and family members as well as political associates, who came out en masse to bid farewell to the 39-year-old politician, confessed that he will not only be missed by members of his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, but by Tarabans and Nigerians at large.
The deputy governor of the state, Engineer Haruna Manu, who spoke at the occasion, urged the bereaved family and members of PDP to take solace in Allah over his demise.
Manu further urged the family of the deceased, his political associates and friends to maintain the legacy he left behind. He noted that his sudden and untimely death is a reminder of the need for people to always draw closer to Allah.
The party’s spokesperson, Andeta’rang Irammae, said Maihanji’s death came as a rude shock to PDP members in Taraba and across the country.
The late Maihanji, according to the state chapter of the PDP, took ill immediately after the general election and until his demise, was on admission in one of the hospitals in Abuja.
