The Zamfara State Police Command has responded after the immediate past governor of the state, Bello Matawalle stated that the vehicles impounded in his residences were his personal properties.

The Police command asked Matawalle to present proof of ownership to reclaim the vehicles in its custody.

Matawalle claimed that the majority of the vehicles taken away by the security agencies from his two houses in Gusau and Maradun last Friday were procured by him before he became a Governor.

But in a press statement, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command SP Yazid Abubakar said those who felt that their vehicles were wrongfully impounded were advised to produce proof of ownership to claim such vehicles.

Abubakar said, “Persons who feel their vehicles were wrongfully taken while executing search warrants during the course of this investigation are advised to produce proof of ownership to claim such vehicles”.

Abubakar maintained that investigations into the issue of the missing vehicles were still ongoing. He called on the general public who have useful information about the missing vehicles to come forward to assist the security agents.

The press statement reads in parts as follows:

“Zamfara state police command is currently investigating a complaint of missing Zamfara state government vehicles”.

“Persons who feel their vehicles were wrongfully attacked while executing search warrants during the course of this investigation are advised to produce proof of ownership to claim such vehicles.

“Members of the public will be duly informed of the outcome of this Investigation”

“They are further advised to desist from spreading false information to mislead the public which is capable of inciting disturbance that can attract arrest and prosecution.”
