The PUNCH reports that some gunmen numbering about seven, have caused some panic in Oyo State.

The gunmen, in the early hours of Tuesday, invaded a residential house on Elebu Abese Street, in the Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, and stole property including phones and a Hummer bus belonging to the owner of the building.

An eyewitness who spoke anonymously to our correspondent for fear of victimisation told our correspondent that the gunmen, some of whom were masked, invaded the house around 2.30am.

During the operation, the source said three of the suspects stood outside the premises of the building as other suspects invaded the house to rob residents of their valuables.

The source said, “They entered the compound between 2am to 2.30am on Tuesday. They ransacked the compound and the apartments of both the landlord and the tenant. They entered the room of the landlord through the tenant’s apartment.

“Before then, they stole the phones of the couple living in the apartment. They also stole N175,000 and a laptop from the house. The phone belonging to the wife of the tenant was also stolen. They spoiled a child’s tablet.

“When they were through with their operation in the house, they left with the landlord’s Hummer bus. I counted about seven men. Three men entered the compound while about three others were outside. It was after they left that somebody in the house contacted the Eleyele Police Station from where policemen came to the scene of the robbery. We learnt that other houses were raided by the robbers.”

Reacting, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the robbery.

“The matter is under investigation. Further updates would be provided,” Osifeso said.
