Some Muslim clerics have met with the leader of the military coup in Niger Republic, Abdourahmane Tchiani.
The clerics met with him on Saturday in Niamey, the country’s capital.
It was reported that Islamic scholar and national leader of the Jama’atu Izalatu Bidi’ah wa Ikamatus Sunnah, the largest Salafi movement in Nigeria, arrived Niger on Saturday alongside other Islamic scholars.
The visit was part of diplomatic efforts to restore democracy in the West African nation.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had announced the deployment of a standby force as it seeks to return Niger to civilian rule.
