Ohanaeze made the remark while applauding President Bola Tinubu for appointing a southerner as FCT Minister.
President Bola Tinubu has been commended for appointing Nyesom Wike, a former Rivers State Governor as new Minister of the FCT.
According to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, FCT, will witness the “magic wand of Mr project”.
Ohanaeze made the remark while applauding President Bola Tinubu for appointing a southerner as FCT Minister.
It said it was a welcome development that the President has finally appointed a southerner to the position, which northerners have occupied since the return of democracy in 1999.
A statement by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the last southerner to occupy the office of “FCT Minister was late Prof. Miriam Odinchezo ikejiani-Clark, an Igbo and first woman to be appointed as FCT boss by Gen Sani Abacha 1995-97.”
The organisation said it is hopeful that Wike will work to ensure that the development of the territory is not lopsided but reflects the interests of all Nigerians.
According to Isiguzoro: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo is indeed happy that after the last southerner, the late Prof. Miriam Odinchezo Ikejiani-Clark, left office as FCT minister in 1997, President Tinubu has now balanced history with the appointment of another southerner, the Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, as FCT Minister.
“Abuja under Wike will surely taste the magic wand of Mr. Projects, a nickname for Wike’s for the good governance in River State. Tinubu and FCT residents can now sleep with their eyes closed.”
