Wild celebrations erupted at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, as the institution's suspended rector, Tajudeen Odetayo, returned to his office following months of suspension.
The Nation recalled that Governor Ademola Adeleke suspended Odetayo over allegations of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office, hence he was replaced with Kehinde Alabi.
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) leadership had embarked on strike, alleging the governor of nepotism, cautioning that, “If Odetayo is suspended, the deputy rector should be the one to replace Odetayo, not Alabi who is yet to be a chief lecturer.”
However, Odetayo had approached the court to challenge his suspension by the state government and an injunction was granted to him for the status quo to remain pending the determination of the suit.
On Thursday morning, Odetayo resumed his office around 8 a.m. amid jubilation by the staff of the institution.
