Saraki's Election Followed Due Process - Sen. Dino Melaye

Posted by Lolade on Tue 23rd Jun, 2015 - tori.ng

Senator Dino Melaye, has stressed that Senator Bukola Saraki's emergence as Senate president followed due process.

One of the arrowheads of Senate Like Minds Group, Senator Dino Melaye, has insisted that Senator Bukola Saraki’s emergence as Senate President followed the laid-down process.

Senator Melaye (APC, Kogi West) also cautioned the rival Unity Forum against making good its threat to take legal action against Saraki’s election, insisting that there were no anomalies in the selection procedure.

Melaye, who spoke on Monday, June 22, said, “There are no anomalies associated with the election of Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate president. He was nominated, voted for and emerged through transparent, valid process which did not breach the constitution or the extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, so, anyone going to court is wasting time and resources.

“I must tell you that the claims that 51 senators were at the International Conference Centre is of no merit. The vote and proceedings of Tuesday, June 9, 2015, that was adopted on Wednesday, June 10, was very clear: 76 lawmakers were present in the chambers at the time of voting and if you take that number from 109, it will not give you 51. That lie about the 51 senators is a bogus and a huge lie.”

Members of the Senate Unity Forum had at the weekend insisted on taking legal action against Saraki’s election on the grounds that it did not follow due constitutional procedure.
