Jigawa indigenes seem to be having the best of time presently. The Jigawa Government on today, June 23, 2015 official announced a remarkable achievement of giving free eye treatment to 70,570 people in the last 10 years.
The news came from Dr Abdulrahman Ashiru, who is the Cordinator of the government's Eye Care and Neglected Tropical Diseases Initiative. This, he disclosed to the representative of the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse, the state capital earlier today.
According to him, the eye surgery was sponsored by the state government. They were also given helping hands by national as well as international affiliates. It was massively conducted between the year 2004 and 2014.
He explained that 33,898 glaucoma patients and 36,672 cataract patients benefited from the exercise.
The exercise was conducted in Hadejia, Gumel, Ringim, Kazaure and Dutse. Free drugs were also distributed to affected individuals to ease them of the pains of heavy cost of drugs.
