Six suspected fraudsters have been arrested by the Kano State Police Command.
During the arrest, the authorities recovered two ATM cards as well as fake naira notes.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the police headquarters in Bompai on Monday, September 2, 2024.
According to the PPRO, four of the suspects were found in possession of fake currency with intent to defraud unsuspecting victims.
“On 22/08/2024 at about 9:15am, a report was received from a resident of Itike Road in Sabon-Gari Quarters, Kano that on the same date at about 9:05am, some suspected scammers swapped his UBA ATM Card and fled away,” Kiyawa stated.
"On receipt of the report, a team of detectives swung into action and arrested the two suspects; one Yahaya Sani, ‘m’, 28 years old, of Hausawa Quarters, and one Nura Dahiru, ‘m’, 37 years old, of Sabuwar-Gandu Quarters, Kano. During the investigation, two ATM Cards were recovered from them with the case under investigation.
"On 26/08/2024 at about 10:00pm, a distress call was received from Shop-rite Complex located along Zoo Road, Kano that some individuals were suspected to be in possession of fake currency with intent to defraud innocent persons.
"On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene and arrested the following suspects; (1) Shamsu Muhammad, ‘m’, 19 years old, (2) Lawal Shehu, ‘m’, 17 years old, all of Gaya LGA, Kano. On spot search, Two Hundred and Forty-one Thousand Naira (#241,000.00) suspected to be counterfeit currency were recovered from them.
“During the investigation, the suspects revealed that they had collected the money from one Sa’ad Adamu, ‘m’, 23 years old, of Gaya LGA, Kano who further mentioned one Zakari AKA Logo, ‘m’, of the same LGA as their accomplice. All the suspects were arrested and the investigation is ongoing.”
