Mrs. Nguemo Ikyowe, a 17-year-old housewife, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for the alleged murder of her three-year-old stepson, Vanen Ikyowe.
It was gathered that the suspect was arrested in Ginde Village in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the Benue NSCDC State Commandant, Mrs Larai Bitrus said the suspect was arrested on September 12, for a case of culpable homicide.
Bitrus stated that following a distress call from members of the public on September 12 that one Nguemo had murdered a three-year-old boy and dumped his corpse in a river at Ginde Village in Guma Local Government Area.
“Our men stationed at Ginde Village swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect who later confessed to the crimes during interrogation.
“The suspect led their officers who conducted a search and discovered the lifeless body of the boy and deposited it at a mortuary in Ginde Village.
“The crime is against the state and so, she will be hand over to the Nigerian Police Force for possible prosecution after their investigation," she said.
While speaking to journalists, the suspect explained that she is the second wife of the victim’s father.
She added that she went to the bush with her stepson to fetch firewood when a ‘spirit’ came upon her and she murdered the boy.
