There has been another suicide bombing in the North-East of the country. This time, two suicide bombers hit a popular market called Baban Layi,in Maiduguri at about the same time.
Quoting an anonymous source, Channels TV reports that the first market bomb was detonated by a female suicide bomber at the northern side of the market, while the other suicide bomber blew himself up in an unmarked pickup van five minutes after.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clement Adoda confirmed the bombing but he said could not confirm the number of casualties just yet. “I cannot give you the exact number of casualties right now, as I am heading towards the blast scenes, but the reports I’m receiving right now as I speak indicates that several people were killed and injured in the sad and unfortunate blast,” he said.
While injured people have been taken to the Specialist Hospital Maiduguri, authorities of the hospital told Channels Television that more injured persons were still being brought in, and therefore it will be difficult to talk about casualties. Several corpses have however been deposited at the morgue. “We cannot confirm to you the casualty figure because we are still receiving dead bodies, as the Hilux patrol vehicles of police and military are still bringing in both killed and injured victims,” an hospital source said.
