Lagos State Police Command operatives have made a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime by arresting John Samuel, a notorious armed robber, hired assassin, and suspected murderer.

The 28-year-old suspect, a native of Akwa Ibom State, was tracked and apprehended at his hideout in Epe on Friday, September 19, 2025, around 2:00 p.m. Samuel had only recently been released from prison after serving a six-year sentence for armed robbery.

Police investigations revealed that on August 18, 2025, Samuel shot and wounded a businessman, Gbenga Obama, in broad daylight on Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. He then dispossessed the victim of a valuable gold necklace and other belongings before escaping with an accomplice waiting on a motorcycle.

CCTV footage of the incident showed Samuel firing an English pistol at the victim before snatching his jewellery.

The businessman, who sustained serious gunshot wounds, was rushed to hospital and has since been discharged after treatment.

During interrogation, Samuel admitted to selling the stolen necklace for N4 million, significantly below its actual market value. He also confessed to resuming violent criminal activities immediately after regaining his freedom from prison.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of Samuel’s gang. Once investigations are completed, the suspect and his accomplices will face prosecution.

Commending the operatives for their swift action, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured Lagos residents of the Command’s resolve to ensure public safety.

“Lagos has no hiding place for criminals,”
the CP warned, emphasizing that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property while urging residents to go about their daily activities without fear.
