No fewer than 17 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) returning to their homes were brutally k!lled on Wednesday morning when armed men, suspected to be members of the Jukun militia, launched a coordinated attack on Tse Ajogo village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The assault, which occurred on December 10, 2025, also left eight other persons with severe injuries. The latest attack has heightened fears among resettling communities in the volatile area.
Sources from the community confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the assailants, who were reportedly heavily armed, stormed Tse Ajogo at approximately 6 a.m., opening fire indiscriminately on residents and the returning IDPs.
Following the shooting, the attackers reportedly set fire to properties, resulting in the destruction of seven residential houses. Several other individuals from the community remain unaccounted for, sparking fears that the casualty figure may rise.
The incident marks the second time in two months that Tse Ajogo has been targeted, according to security reports. The community, situated about four kilometres from Rafin Kada town, has been designated as highly vulnerable to armed incursions by militia groups.
The sustained attacks are widely seen as attempts to disrupt efforts by the state government and humanitarian agencies to resettle displaced Tiv communities who fled earlier communal clashes.
Tiv community leaders in Taraba State have also been advised to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious movements to relevant authorities as prayers are offered for lasting peace.
