Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kwara State to assess the tragic attack in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area, which claimed over 100 lives.
According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, VP Shettima is conveying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “strong assurances that the Federal Government will not relent until those responsible for the attack are tracked, apprehended, and brought to justice.”
The Vice President’s visit is part of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to provide support to victims and coordinate security responses in the affected communities.
Earlier on Thursday, President Tinubu received a detailed security briefing from Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the State House regarding the attack in Kaiama.
Following the briefing, the President approved the deployment of an army battalion to the area and announced the launch of “Operation Savannah Shield,” a military initiative aimed at neutralizing the terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities.
Recall that the coordinated assault on Woro and neighboring Nuku communities occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, when armed assailants struck the rural settlements.
Residents reported that the attackers had previously sent warnings or letters claiming they were coming to “preach” or to persuade villagers to abandon allegiance to the Nigerian State in favor of extremist interpretations of law demands that the community resisted.
