Kaduna University Lecturers End Strike After Salary Deal

Lecturers at Kaduna State University have suspended their strike after the state government approved implementing the 2025 federal pay agreement for the institution's academic staff.

The suspension started Friday morning after union members voted unanimously to end the industrial action.

Governor Uba Sani approved the agreement to take effect from October 2026.

The government will also pay nine months of unpaid salaries owed to lecturers from January to September 2026.

The university's governing council and management approved this payment as well.

The union, led by chairman Abubakar Abdullahi and secretary Silas Bakut, called the approvals significant and commendable.

They said the move will restore stability at the university, improve staff welfare and help retain lecturers.

The union praised how the dispute was handled.

No lecturer faced threats or intimidation, and the government allowed the union to follow its own procedures for starting and stopping the strike.

This showed respect for due process and proper industrial relations, the union said.

The lecturers began a two-week warning strike in August over unpaid salaries, allowances, university autonomy and promotion delays.

They said the government's earlier approval of 300 million naira for earned academic allowance did not settle all their demands.

The union urged students to prepare for classes to resume soon.
