#TeamNigeria Captain, Mikel Obi Allegedly Donates Millions of Naira to 'Abandoned' Olympic Team

 

The captain of the 85-man Nigeria Olympic team to 2016 Rio Olympics, John Mikel Obi, has reportedly donated $30,000 (about N11million) to the team in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

According to AfricanFootball, an excited player of the Olympic team told said: “Mikel has donated $30,000 to the team. You know we have not received money since we left Nigeria.”

 

We had reported here few days ago that the Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi, was named the captain of the 85-man Nigerian contingent to next month’s Rio Olympics.

 

On Wednesday, coach Samson Siasia filed a passionate plea for the authorities concerned to come to the rescue of the team financially, saying this was not the way for any team to prepare for a major competition, adding that he has not been paid five months’ salaries.

 

An unnamed Nigerian based in Atlanta picked up the bills of the team for their first 10 days in the United States of America.
