Three Senators Dump APC, Move to SDP

Posted by Iyinoluwa on Fri 14th Nov, 2014 - tori.ng

Three Ogun state senators have defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a result of the crisis in the party in Ogun state. They say APC is building something out of nothing.

When the All Progressive Congress was created, most Nigerians thought it was a better opposition party. Many politicians dumped their party and moved to the APC. However, some politicians do not think so.

It was APC's turn to be dumped when three Ogun state senators: Gbenga Kaka representing Ogun East, Odunsi Akin representing Ogun West and Gbenga Obadara representing Ogun Central, defected from the All Progressive Congress for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Tuesday 12 November 2014.

This decision was told to the public by Mr. Kaka at a press briefing in the National Assembly on Tuesday. According to Kaka, the decision of the three senators is as a result of the crisis in the party in Ogun state.  He said the division in the party has led to the creation of parallel executives in the state. “All our protest, appeal and demand for justice from the national leadership yielded no result. Rather, the faction that flagrantly flouted the party guidelines was given recognition by the national executive" Kaka said.

He also said that the APC's unrest in the state was building "something on nothing", and so the party will not stand properly. He mentioned that this is the reason they (the three defecting senators) did not attend the party's National Convention.

Will  the unrest in the All Progressive Congress make more members defect?
