Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi, made his debut for new club Everton in a 2-0 loss to newly promoted Aston Villa on Friday.

The former Arsenal man was a 60th minute substitute for Gylfi Sigurdsson and wasted no time in showing why the Toffees paid £34m for his services with some brilliant display.

The forward was close to getting his first goal for the club on his debut after firing a low shot which beat the goalkeeper only to be stopped by the woodwork in the 81st minute.

Iwobi was inches away from a dream debut but has stated that the team were unlucky not to have equalised, but must improve their performance in the next game.

“I thought I had helped my team get a point but when I saw it come off the post I thought someone was going to get the rebound but unfortunately someone cleared it away. It is just one of those games we just have to move on.

“We weren’t playing at our best, maybe the performance could be improved but it is just one of those nights.

“Everyone is disappointed but we’re not trying to dwell on our mistakes.”

The night belonged to Villa who showed determination scoring in each half of the game to win their first match of the new premier league season.

Wesley Morales opened the scoring for the Claret and Blue army in the 21st minute and withstood pressure from the Toffees before Anwar El Ghazi scored in the 95th minute to seal the win for the home side.

Everton is yet to win get a win in the season in three matches.
With the win, Aston Villa ends their long, 15 game winless run in the Premier League stretching back to February 2016 and are up and running.
