Nigeria on Saturday recorded 601 new cases of the novel coronavirus, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) even as the global death toll crossed the 800,000 mark.
Lagos, the country’s COVID-19 epicentre, reported the highest number of cases with 404, while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) posted 37 new infections.
Other regions with new cases include Oyo-19, Ondo-14, Abia-13, Enugu-13, Kaduna-13, Edo-12, Kano-12, Kwara-11, Ebonyi-10, Nasarawa-7, Ogun-6, Osun-5, Delta-5, Niger-5, Plateau-4, Bayelsa-4, Katsina-3, Ekiti-2, and Imo-2.
The NCDC reported one new death on Saturday, bringing the country’s death toll to 997; confirmed cases rose to 51,905, out of which 38,767 patients have recovered.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from the new coronavirus surpassed 800,000 around the world, according to an AFP tally based on official sources at around 1100 GMT on Saturday.
In total, 800,004 fatalities have been recorded globally, out of 23,003,079 declared infections.
