Peter Obi Reveals Next Action If INEC Refuses To Obey Court Order to Inspect Electoral Material

Posted by Thandiubani on Mon 13th Mar, 2023 - tori.ng

Obi, who appeared on Arise TV on Monday, said INEC must obey court orders and allow the LP to inspect the materials.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi has opened up on the next step he will take if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, fails to grant the party permission to inspect the sensitive materials used in the conduct of the February 25, 2023, presidential and National Assembly elections.

Obi cried out over INEC’s alleged refusal to heed the Supreme Court order to allow the party to inspect the materials used in the election.

INEC declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu winner of the election, saying that the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate polled a total of 8,794,726 to defeat his closest rivals and candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the LP who scored 6,984, 520 and 6,101,533 respectively.

However, Obi has gone to court to challenge the outcome and the result announced by the electoral umpire.

Obi, who appeared on Arise TV on Monday, said INEC must obey court orders and allow the LP to inspect the materials.

“The court granted the ruling, but INEC is not obeying. For me, we’ll do whatever is necessary within the law. Whatever we’re going to do will be in the interest of the country. Let them give us access.

“They have declared somebody as the winner, and we must get access to the process. We’ll protest at the INEC office, and we’ll also go back to the court because we have a situation where we cannot even mention,” he said.

“INEC is an institution backed by the law but they’re not obeying it. How do we start building a nation? The most important ingredient of what makes a nation is the rule of law.”
