I Almost Featured Nicki Minaj - Iyanya

Superstar Nigerian singer,  Iyanya, has revealed that he almost featured American rapper, Nicki Minaj but couldn't afford $200,000 for the collaboration.

Recall that the ‘Kukere’ singer revealed that he spent a whopping sum of N52 million on the song he recorded with Davido and Kizz Daniel. 

Iyanya said that the amount he mentioned covered recording of the song titled ‘Like’, shooting music video and promotion before as well as after its release.

Speaking further, the artiste revealed how he almost got American female rapper, Nicki Minaj to feature in his hit song, ‘Ur Waist’.

According to him, the song ‘Kukere’ was so massive that he came under pressure to put out another single. Although the song, ‘Flavour’ had already been produced and recorded, it didn’t seem like a worthy follow-up to ‘Kukere’.

That was when he decided to remake ‘Kukere’ and turn it into a new song that became ‘Ur waist’.

“‘Ur waist’ was so massive we decided it should go international and we needed the right artiste to help with that journey. Ubi Franklin suggested Nicki Minaj and I asked how we’re gonna pay for that, he laughed and said “if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough”.

“We started making contacts to who will get us Nicki Minaj and we found someone Who had direct contacts and he asked that we fly to Atlanta for a meeting with him and then he will take us to meet Nicki Minaj for the collaboration. And I flew straight to Atlanta and we started meetings that will lead to the reason when we were in Atlanta.

“Omo na so them start to carry us go club to light bottles to show say money Dey. Omo no be person tell us to wise o,” he wrote.

He noted that when they finally met Nicki Minaj, they were told that to get her on a verse, they needed $200,000. Although they raised about $70,000, they were still not able to get her on a verse, he revealed.
