In what will come across as a really heartbreaking development, some gunmen have killed a man in Adamawa State.
They then went ahead to collect N2.5m before releasing his wife.
The Adamawa State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
It said the act was perpetuated by a gang of five members, two of whom the command has arrested.
The two suspects arrested by the Police are Mohammed Bello, 22, of Jere-Gada Village, and Abubakar Mallam, 26, of Dibis village in Mubi North LGA.
According to the Police, Mohammed and Abubkar had stormed the residence of Alhaji Ahmadu Mohammed in Digil community in Mubi North LGA on the 3rd of April, 2023 to kidnap him.
He said the suspects instead shot and killed the man and then abducted his 28-year-old wife, Aisha Ahmadu, held her until three days later when a ransom of N2.5m was paid by the family.
A statement signed by the image maker of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje explained that the suspects were nabbed by the operatives of the command attached to Mubi North Divisional Police headquarters.
Nguroje added that the operatives, in a joint patrol with some hunters, arrested the suspects.
“The suspects conspired, organized and whisked away the victim after killing her husband. They held her hostage for three days and three nights until a ransom of N2.5 million was paid as demanded,” Nguroje stated.
He said that the State Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Adeniyi had directed the OC Crack Squad to augment the strength of DPO Mubi North and trace the whereabouts of the fleeing three suspects.
The Police Commissioner assured the government and the people of Adamawa state of a sustained effort to dislodge all criminal elements.
