The unprovoked massacre of defenceless residents of Plateau State has been condemned by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
In a statement issued on Saturday, NANS Senate President, Babatunde Afeez, called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government to go hard on the perpetrators, warning that they should not give chances for crime.
The NANS official said, “Without much ado, I am using this medium to state that, I stand with the good people of Plateau State and I join my voice with that of other good and conscious Nigerians, to demand that the relevant authorities take immediate and decisive actions to bring the evil perpetrators to justice.
“A nation as big as ours is not expected to be lagging when issues that affects the securities of her citizens arises and never should there by any form of leniency when serious issues like terrorism or insurgency occurs. And to this effect, it is important that these criminals must be held accountable for their actions.
"It is crucial that we work together as a society to ensure the safety and security of our people. I therefore call on the government and law enforcement agencies to as a matter of urgency, expedite their efforts in investigating this incident, go hard on the evil perpetrators and ensure the culprits who carried out such dastardly act are brought to book in no time. And not stopping at that, but they should also work with proper intelligence and all necessary resources to prevent such acts of violence from happening again.
"We must also remember that unity is our strength. Let us come together, irrespective of our differences, to support and uplift one another. Together, we can create a society where peace, harmony, and justice prevail.
"Furthermore, I encourage everyone to use their voice and platform to raise awareness about this incident and advocate for justice. We must stand up against violence and work towards building a safer and more peaceful community."
He, however, assured Nigerians that NANS would continue to stand up for the rights and well-being of every Nigerian student. "We will continue to fight for justice and work towards creating a better future for all."
