Lionel Messi, the Inter Miami captain, scored his fifth consecutive brace in a 2-0 victory over Nashville SC on Saturday, setting a new MLS record.

Last week, the 38-year-old became the first player in MLS history to score multiple goals in four consecutive matches.

Messi netted in each half against Nashville to extend this record.

Along with Nashville’s Sam Surridge, he is the current top scorer in the MLS with 16 goals.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner grabbed his first goal after 17 minutes, breaking the deadlock with a sublime free kick.
