Police officers on Wednesday dispersed Makoko residents protesting demolitions at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja, firing tear gas to break up the demonstration.
The protesters had gathered at the assembly complex to demand an end to forced evictions and the demolition of homes in communities across the state.
However, the release of tear gas by the police triggered panic in the area, forcing protesters, residents, traders and commuters to flee in different directions to avoid being affected.
The situation disrupted movement around the complex, as protesters scampered for safety amid the chaos.
While the security operatives were still present at the scene, the protest had been temporarily dispersed.
