Veteran journalist and former presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati has shared insights into his marital life.

Abati shared the details during a recent interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown.

While talking about marriage, respect, and culture, he explained that age does not automatically give him control in his home.

He said that as the older partner, there are moments when he feels his wife relates with him too freely.

However, whenever he tries to remind her of his seniority, she quickly pushes back and makes her position clear.

According to him, his wife insists on being treated as an equal partner and refuses to conform to certain traditional expectations.

Abati explained that his wife does not believe in practices such as kneeling to show submission and has made it known that she will not be pressured into silence.

He added that she once bluntly told him that if he wanted a wife who strictly followed village traditions, he should return to his hometown to find one.

He said: “As an older person, sometimes I think my wife gets too familiar and I said no, I am older than you and she said no I you don’t want me to talk.

"She said she cannot kneel down, if I am looking for a wife I should go back to my village.”

The former presidential aide is married to Kikelomo Abati, popularly known as Kiki Atanda-Owo.

She is a broadcaster and the chief executive officer of Z-Edge Holdings.
