Residents of Woro community in Kwara State, recently attacked by terrorists, stated that the assailants sent a letter notifying them of their intention to preach before carrying out the attack.
Recall that over 100 residents were k!lled, with several houses burnt when terrorists attacked the communities in Kaiama LGA of the state.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, had alleged that violent attacks were carried out by Islamic fundamentalists.
According to the BBC, the terrorists had written to the traditional leader, Umar Bio Salihu, intimating him of their plan.
The terrorists’ doctrine was said to have been viewed as an extremist version of Islam.
The traditional ruler, who was not at home during the attack, said the terrorists visited his house first and abducted his wife and children.
He said he returned to find his house razed and two children k!lled.
According to him, the terrorists wanted residents to renounce the Nigerian government and follow their teachings, adding that it was “against what the Quran teaches”.
Also speaking, a Woro resident, Abdulla Umar Usman, said the terrorists came into the communities in multitudes.
“Two of the community head’s children, who were medical students, were k!lled in front of their home before it was set ablaze,” Usman said.
Following the violent tragedy, Amnesty International has revealed that the terrorists had been distributing religious leaflets to the two villages in the last five months.
