The Enugu State Government has announced restrictions on movement across the six local government areas that comprise the Enugu North Senatorial District ahead of Saturday's bye-election.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, made this known in a public service announcement released on Friday.

He said the directive would apply across the 102 electoral wards within the senatorial district.

The government stated that the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election would take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and that to guarantee peaceful, orderly and credible conduct of the election, movement would be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. across the six local government areas and 102 electoral wards that make up the district.

The government, however, exempted officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security personnel, accredited election observers, journalists and other persons authorised to carry out election-related functions from the restriction.

It appealed to residents and eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully and adhere to electoral guidelines throughout the exercise.

The government also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to remain law-abiding before, during and after the poll.

Onyia said security agencies had been directed to enforce compliance with the movement restriction and maintain law and order during the election.

He urged the people and residents of the district to exercise their civic responsibility peacefully and in accordance with electoral guidelines, and also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to remain law-abiding throughout and after the exercise.

He stressed that security agencies had been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

The state government thanked residents for their understanding and cooperation and wished the district a peaceful and successful bye-election.

The Enugu North Senatorial District comprises Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani local government areas.

The bye-election is being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission to fill the vacant senatorial position.
