President Bola Tinubu on Thursday issued a stern warning to contractors, stating that his administration does not reward patronage but competence.

Tinubu said that if contractors deliver their jobs promptly, they would receive more work, but warned that failure to perform would see them removed from further engagement.

He issued the warning during the commissioning of the Old Keffi Road, from Kado Fish Market to Deidei, an event held to mark his third year anniversary in office.

He was represented at the event by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Commending the contractor that handled the road project, Tinubu said the turnout of residents was a testament to the trust his administration enjoys.

He said he was happy to witness the restoration of dignity to the daily lives of residents in the area, noting that the fully rehabilitated 16-kilometre road, running from Kado village through Life Camp to Deidei Junction along the Outer Northern Expressway, had now been completed and opened for use.

He described the project as more than a promise on paper, stressing that it represents asphalt residents can drive on, safety they can trust after dark, and drainage that would protect both homes and markets.

He reiterated that under his government, patronage is not rewarded, only competence, adding that contractors who deliver would receive more work while those who fail would be excluded from further projects in the FCT.

He said the minister overseeing such projects does not waste time with underperforming contractors, operating on a principle of moving forward and never backward.

He expressed great joy at what he described as a demonstration of the trust citizens place in government when governance works as intended, adding that witnessing the restoration of dignity to a road used daily by residents brought him particular satisfaction.

He further noted that he had already toured parts of the road and observed the volume of businesses operating along it, particularly the sale of construction materials, stating that the rehabilitation had improved these businesses and that prosperity had returned to the area.
