15 Injured After Two Trams Collide on Rotterdam Iconic Bridge

On Wednesday, two trams crashed on Rotterdam's famous Erasmus Bridge in the Netherlands, injuring at least 15 people, one of them critically.

The famous bridge, which crosses the River Maas and is a vital transportation hub in the Dutch port city, was the site of the collision.

One tram crashed into the back of another, scattering debris over the road and seriously damaging both trucks, according to webcam footage.

A correspondent at the scene observed mangled metal and shattered glass as emergency responders cordoned off the bridge and closed it to traffic in both directions.

Emergency personnel evacuated injured passengers using stretchers and wheelchairs, while the seriously injured victim was taken to hospital.

Rotterdam authorities initially reported 18 injuries but later revised the figure to 15, according to a Dutch national broadcaster.

Reacting to the incident, Rotterdam public transport operator RET said it was cooperating with emergency services to determine the cause of the collision, describing itself as deeply shocked after viewing the footage.

The company added that, working with emergency services, it would do everything possible to uncover how the incident occurred.
