Italy Braces for Scorching Heat as Temperatures Hit 37°C

Italy faces an intense heat wave expected to last through at least Wednesday, September 9, with temperatures climbing to between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius across the country.

Forecaster Lorenzo Tedici warned that a powerful North African high-pressure system settling over the Mediterranean will keep the heat firmly in place through the middle of next week.

Temperatures will soar roughly eight degrees above what's normal for this time of year.

Tedici noted that cooler Atlantic air will start moving in from Wednesday onward, signalling a shift in weather patterns.

Mathematical models predict the high-pressure system will collapse entirely after September 9, aided by cold air descending from the North Atlantic.

Through this week, northern and central Italy will experience sunny, warm weather on Thursday, while the south remains mostly sunny with occasional showers possible in the Calabrian mountains.

Friday brings sunny, warm conditions nationwide, with heat intensifying in the north and isolated showers continuing in the mountains.

Saturday stays hot, with extreme heat forecast for the north and mostly sunny, warm conditions across central and southern regions.

The longer-term outlook suggests the African high-pressure system will hold firm, pushing temperatures toward their peak of around 37 degrees Celsius from north to south.
