Carrick Believes Man United Can Challenge Europes Best

Michael Carrick is confident that Manchester United have what it takes to perform against the best teams in Europe as they prepare to return to the Champions League for the first time in three years.

Carrick got the permanent manager job after leading United to a third-place finish in the Premier League while serving as interim coach last season.

Now back in Europe's biggest tournament, United kick off their campaign on Thursday against Azerbaijani champions Sabah at Old Trafford.

Carrick called the Champions League a special tournament and said the team is eager to make the absolute most of the opportunity.

He made it clear that United are not just there to participate, but to push as far into the competition as possible.

While United haven't made it past the round of 16 since 2019 and have had a slow start to their league season, Carrick believes his squad has the strength and experience to manage a busy schedule of games on Thursdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays.

On team news, forward Benjamin Sesko could get his first start of the season after scoring off the bench in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Everton.

Defender Matthijs de Ligt is also getting closer to making his comeback after spending nearly a year out with a back injury.
