The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has set up a 63-member campaign organisation in Cross River State, marking the start of its groundwork for the 2027 general elections.

The official opening ceremony happened on Wednesday in Calabar.

Ekpo Okon, National Coordinator of the Atiku/Amaechi Campaign Organisation, said Nigeria needs committed leaders to pull it out of its worsening economic problems.

The event follows a similar move by a faction of the ADC led by its factional national chairman, Nafiu Gombe, which set up a North-West Campaign Council days earlier.

That faction's zonal caucus met with governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and state assembly candidates in Sokoto on Friday.

Okon said the Cross River launch is the party's first step toward mobilising voters and promoting its candidates for the elections, which are scheduled for January and February 2027.

He criticised the Federal Government's removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira, saying both have made life harder for ordinary Nigerians.

A former PDP state chairman who also spoke at the event questioned how money saved from subsidy removal and new borrowing has been used.

He said the government has not shown how these funds have led to real development.

Okon also said rising university fees are hurting poorer families, and that student loans have not solved the problem.

He proposed that crude oil be supplied to local refineries at reduced rates to make fuel cheaper.

He urged party members to step up grassroots work and help voters understand how government policies affect them.

ADC governorship candidate Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo said her administration would move Cross River from a survival mindset to a thriving, people-focused society.

She said the party has a full manifesto covering citizens, economic growth and strong institutions.

She also criticised the use of religion in politics and said the APC had failed to deliver after 12 years in power and had turned to personal attacks against opposition figures.

Cross River ADC chairman Godwin Effanga described Toyo as competent and experienced.

He asked residents to look beyond party lines and back the ADC to rescue the state from poor management.

He also told party members to defend their votes and mobilise voters, saying the 2027 polls are a chance to build a better future.
