Buhari is Selective, Insincere And Ill-conceived - Rivers PDP

Posted by Nicholas on Thu 23rd Jul, 2015 - tori.ng

The Rivers state chapter of the PDP has accused President Buhari of being 'selective' and 'insincere' in his fight against corruption.

The Punch has reported that the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has released a statement signed by the Special Adviser to its chairman accusing President Buhari of not being totally fair with the way he is combating corruption.

It based its allegation on the President’s undoings over the looting of public facilities and siphoning of state funds by the Rotimi Amaechi administration.

It also made it known that President Buhari had continued to cover up for the former governor, instead of rebuking him. It cited Amaechi’s inclusion in the Presidential team to the United States of America to meet President Barrack Obama as one that is unexpected of a president trying to combat corruption.

“Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party frowns at the manner President Buhari appears to be carrying on his anti-corruption activities, describing such action as selective, insincere and ill-conceived.

“The PDP says its position is based on the obvious cases of looting of public facilities, siphoning of Rivers State funds, fraudulent sales of State-owned establishments and monumental financial frauds committed by Rotimi Amaechi and his administration in Rivers State. President has continued to shield the former Governor, the latest of which is his inclusion in the Presidential team to the United States to meet with President Obama. The state PDP argued that if the President was sincere and dispassionate in his efforts to bring to book corrupt leaders in the country, the former Governor (Amaechi) would not be “dining and having complimentary handshakes” with him at the Presidential villa.

“If President Buhari was also serious and had not marked certain citizens, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party and those that served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, for his selective punitive actions, Rotimi Amaechi will not be flying abroad with him, but would be made to answer corruption charges against him and the administration,” the statement read.

President Buhari, who has been seen as no-nonsense, zero-tolerant-to-corruption president has been surprising Nigerians.

During his acceptance speech as the president, he made it known that “he belongs to everybody and he also belongs to nobody,” a term which made Nigerians believe he was not ready for political Godfatherism.

Recently, President Buhari stated that his government will not spare any member of the All Progressives Congress as well as associates found culpable of corruption.
