A legal suit has been instituted against chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Anyim Pius Anyim

A one time Senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim has filed a legal suit against the national vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP South-South), Cairo Ojougboh and the deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank over alleged libelous statements.

Anyim said the libelous statements relating to the contract of the Centenary City Project were published against him in some national dailies, Leadership reports.

In two separate suits filed by his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), at an Abuja high court, Anyim is asking for the sum of N1billion each representing general, aggravated, punitive and exemplary damages over embarrassment, public odium, derision, ridicule, obloquy, mental agony, psychological trauma which the publications have caused him.

Anyim prayed the court to declare that the separate publications credited to Ojougboh and Frank in some national dailies of July 13 and 15 respectively concerning his person and integrity are false, unfounded and libelous.

He explained that such publications tarnished his reputation and official capacities as former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and former Senate president.

The former SGF stated that the story was maliciously concocted by the defendants to mislead the public and the anti-corruption agencies with a view to clamping down on the Centenary City Project and destroying the public investment and faith in the project.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the case.
