Ponography App Snaps Intimate Pics of Users, Then Locks Phone in Blackmail Demanding Ransom

Posted by Lolade on Tue 08th Sep, 2015 - tori.ng

A security company has fished out a tricky pornographic android application that demands a ransom from users after taking compromising pictures of them.

A pornographic Android app that secretly snaps pictures of people before blocking their phones has been discovered by a security company.

'Adult Player' promised porn filth fun, but was in fact an example of ransomware that tricked those that used it.

According to the Mirror, the app would use the phone's front-facing camera to take a picture of whoever was using it and then lock the gadget completely.

It would demand £330 in ransom before the phone was able to be used again.

The racket was discovered by American security company Zscaler.

“Ransomware and 'crypto malware', such as that imposed by pornographic app ‘Adult Player’, is rising at an alarming rate," Raj Samani, the chief technical officer for Intel Security in Europe, Middle East and Africa told Mirror Tech.

Once inside a computer it can work in a several different ways. One of these is to bombard users with adverts, indecent images or bogus warnings until they pay to have them removed.

Alternatively, it can lock users out of one or more parts of their PC until they pay to have access restored. Sometimes it does this by mimicking an official warning from a government agency or police force.
