A statement from the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barrister Esueme Dan-Kikile, said the state has declared 7 days mourning period for the ex-governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who died on Saturday.
Kikile said the mourning period started yesterday. The statement said within the period of mourning, all flags are to fly at half mast just as all official government engagements remain cancelled.
Kikile said government would work closely with the Alamieyeseigha family to give the former governor a befitting burial. Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, who was an unrepentant resource control crusader, died of cardiac arrest at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH. He was governor of Bayelsa State from May 29, 1999 to December 2005.
