Two Dead in South Africa Bridge Collapse (Photos)

 

A bridge collapsed onto the main highway between Johannesburg and the capital, Pretoria on Wednesday. The tragedy claimed two lives and about 20 other people were injured according to the South African emergency services.

 

The incident happened during rush-hour near a busy slip road to the Sandton financial district.

 

 

Chris Botha, spokesman for Netcare 911 told Reuters news agency: "At least five of the injured are critical and the numbers may change as there are still people trapped beneath the structure," Chris Botha, a spokesman for privately-owned emergency services company Netcare 911, told the Reuters news agency. 

 

Emergency services are still in place to help those trapped.
