The Nigerian army, yesterday, set up a board to probe the alleged election malpractices in Ekiti and Osun states.

On Tuesday, October 20, the Nigerian Army, set up a high powered Board of Inquiry (BOI) to probe the alleged malpractices and involvement of its personnel in Ekiti and Osun states in 2014 gubernatorial elections.

In a statement issued by Col. Sani Usman, the acting Director, Army Public Relations in Abuja, disclosed that the BOI was to investigate alleged unprofessional and unethical conduct of some Nigerian Army personnel in Ekiti and Osun states in 2014 gubernatorial elections, among other things.

The spokesperson stated that the BOI would also investigate cases in other states where allegations of misconduct were made during the 2015 general elections in the country.

"As part of its Terms of Reference, the BOI is also to review the involvement of the Nigerian Army formations/units and its personnel in elections and other duties in aid to civil authority.

The essence of the investigation is to prevent future unprofessional conduct by officers and men in the performance of constitutional roles. It is also to strengthen Nigerian Army’s support to democratic values and structures in Nigeria," he said.
