Iran protesters
Tehran’s Police Chief, Hossein Rahimi, on Monday denied that the security forces under police commandment had shot at the protesters over the past few days, state TV reported.
According to Rahimi, Tehran’s police officers have been ordered to show restraint and not shoot in the face of protests.
On Sunday, hundreds of people tried to stage a protest in Tehran against the downing of a Ukrainian passenger plane by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) over Tehran’s airspace.
Tehran has witnessed a lot of anger among citizens who are demanding justice and accountability following the admission by the government that its military actually shot down Ukrainian airliner killing the 176 passengers and crew.
Iran on Saturday said its military mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian plane, which led to the death of all 176 people on board.
“Commander-in-chief [Khamenei] resign, resign,” videos posted on Twitter showed hundreds of people chanting in front of Tehran’s Amir Kabir University, Al Jazeera reports.
The protesters wondered why the plane was allowed to take off when tensions in Iran were so high.
