Adamawa State seems to be a hot battlefield as Boko Haram intensifies its fight for the state. After news that they have captured Gombi and Hong local government areas, the Islamic terrorist group seeks to solidify its hold on the towns. However, the Nigerian Government has refused to give up on Adamawa as they engaged Boko Haram in a hot battle late Sunday night. Unfortunatly ten nigerian soldiers were reported to have lost their lives in the heated gunfight.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, one of the residents of Gombi said the insurgents conducted a house-to-house raid in the area, killing many residents and taking over the town. After this, it was said that they proceeded to Yola, the capital of Adamawa state. It was on their way to Yola that they met with resistance from the Nigerian Army, who engaged them in a fight, in the bid to recapture the town.
In spite of reported eye-witness accounts that the town of Gombi has be raided by the Islamic insurgents, the Governoer of the state, Bala James Ngilari has denied that any such occurrence has taken place. Director of Press and Publicity for Adamawa state, Mr.P. P. Elisha, spoke to Tribune and said although the sect has made attempts to capture the local government areas, nigerian troops have stopped them in their tracks. He said although a restriction of movement has been announced in the two towns, it is because of the ongoing battle between the soldiers and Boko Haram.
