Teenager Who Refused Taking His Bath Dies After Using Large Quantities of Deodorant

A man who refused taking his bath but sprays deodorant every day has lost his life in a most inexplicable manner giving cause for many to worry.

A teenager has lost his life because of a bad habit. The young boy who preferred using large quantities of deodorant instead of taking showers died from inhaling the gas, an inquest heard.

The young boy identified as Thomas Townsend, 16, was found collapsed in his children’s home bedroom. Police who searched the room found 42 cans of spray. An inquest into his death heard he "succumbed to the effects of the gas" during a freak accident on August 29 last year.

His mother Sally told the hearing: “He would not take showers but would stand there with a deodorant and spray half the can on him.

"Then he’d spray aftershave.

"He would go through a can a week. I didn't know he had so many cans in his room but he was a big hoarder."

A pathologist said Thomas suffered circulation collapse caused by butane gas. The Mirror reports that Thomas had been in a foster home for five years until he moved to a children's home in Folkestone, Kent, last February. The coroner in Folkestone, Kent, heard he had a history of self-harm but was settled at the home in the town and looking forward to working as a farrier.

The hearing at Folkestone Magistrates Court was told he expressed no intention to take his life and showed no interest in substance abuse. Recording a verdict of accidental death, Coroner Rachel Redman or Central and South East Kent, said: "He sprayed it [deodorant]all over himself and succumbed to the effects of the gas."
