An anorexic woman has defied doctors' prediction by miraculously surviving a near death experience that left her body almost in a skeletal form.

Inspirational and shocking photos of an anorexic woman who weighed just four stone and was given 48 hours has made a miraculous recovery. The Mirror reports that when Gemma Walker was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and bulimia aged 14, doctors warned she would die without treatment.

The teen weighed a tiny 29kg, or 4.5 stone, forcing her devastated parents to consider palliative care. Over the next seven years, Gemma was admitted to hospital three times - one emergency care and two long term psychiatric and re-feeding admissions.

Now 22, she is celebrating six months of recovery and the launch of her new business selling beauty products Rejuvenete.me. Last week she shared shocking photos of her skeletal form to warn other people battling eating disorders.

Gemma, from Gold Coast, Australia, said: "It's hard for me to look back at the photos, not so much how I physically looked but more so the feelings.

"I look at each photo and remember exactly how I was feeling, or what was behind that photograph.

"I felt numb, the days just melted into each other and I wished each day by, hoping that I would just pass peacefully in my sleep. My family and I were ready to let me pass."

Gemma's dad Steve revealed still seeing pictures of his daughter at her worst brings back the pain and constant anguish he saw. The severely depressed girl would trick doctors to think she was gaining weight by wearing gym weights and began to self-harm to cope with the pain. And when Gemma finally took steps to recovery she found she struggled with binge eating and suffered from 'refeeding syndrome'.

The desperate teen would consume 6,500 calories in just 20 minutes causing her to pass out and experience hallucinations. Gemma credits her supportive parents and her partner for helping her defy the odds. Her dad even encouraged Gemma to post a goodbye letter to anorexia. Gemma is overjoyed that she has overcome the setback and hopes to continue waxing stronger ever.
