Fake Soldiers Arrested In Lagos, Ogun
Twelve suspects posing as soldiers in military uniforms have been arrested by the Nigerian Army (NA).
The 81 Division Military Police Personnel apprehended the fake soldiers during OPERATION CHECKMATE in Lagos and Ogun States.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Umar Thama Musa said several illicit acts are committed by impostors.
A statement on Wednesday by Acting Deputy Director 81 Division Army Public Relations, Major Olaniyi Joseph Osoba announced the raid.
General Musa explained that not everyone wearing or displaying military banners and accoutrement are NA personnel.
The GOC announced that more than 150 impostors were caught from January 2021 till date.
Some mounted roadblocks along Ajah road to extort money from motorists and indulge in other illegal duties.
Another set were nabbed along the Ilaro border of Ogun while smuggling of rice and other contrabands.
Musa said the suspects would be handed over the police for further investigation and prosecution.
The senior officer advised civilians to stop putting on military uniform, T- shirts, or display banners, Belts and stickers on vehicles.
Musa urged members of the public to report such to NA Formations or Units. He thanked the media for their reportage of Army activities.
